No 4 in the series
Day 3 Our third day in Darwin. We’ve hired the Motor Home and we’re off to explore
Kakadu. Janine has heard about a great crocodile park just out of Darwin on the
way so we’ll drop off for a few ‘snaps’! Our plan is to see as much as we can in
and around Darwin. Wait till you see the Motor Home we hired…it’s just so comfy
and easy to drive!
Day 4 We took a slight detour and did Litchfield National Park. Stayed last night
in a pretty special holiday park called the Batchelor Resort Caravillage. W even
had a swim in the spectacular rock pool below the falls. We’ll stay the night before
heading off to Mary River in the morning and on to Kakadu. That’s the great thing
about a motor home; we get to do whatever we want at our own pace.
Day 5 Here we are at Mary River. What an amazing place. The scenery! We took a river
cruise and did some croc spotting. Got some great ‘snaps’ ha, ha! We saw one croc
our guide reckoned was 4 metres long! They’re just a scary in the wild as they are
at the croc park! Met a couple from Japan with 2 delightful kids; the looks on their
faces when the big croc ran down from the bank was priceless.
Day 6 On the road again after stopping at Ubirr where we checked out the ancient
Aboriginal rock art. They say some of this is ten to fifteen thousand years old.
It’s incredible. We also stopped in at Barramundi Gorge which is locally known as
Maguk. It’s a great spot to take a refreshing dip in the natural plunge pools formed
in the rock. We’re in the famous Kakadu National Park now staying at Muirella Park.
Tomorrow we’re off to Jim Jim Falls.
Day 7 Hooked up with a 4WD tour and joined a great bunch of people from Perth to
visit Jim Jim Falls. We hiked to the base of the falls and had a spot of lunch before
heading back to our Motor Home and the Gagudja Cooinola Lodge for a well earned
rest.
Day 8 We set off early and went straight to Katherine stopping briefly at the spectacular
Adelaide River on the way. The Gorge is in the Natimuk National Park. We hired a
canoe and had the most amazing experience cruising the gorge….unbelievable! We’ll
stay the night here before heading back to Darwin tomorrow to hand back the Motor
Home. I’ll tell you what, Janine and I are seriously thinking of buying our won.
